“Fernweh”…or I Need To GO

What does that mean? It’s German, meaning “far sickness.” It’s an urge to travel even stronger than wanderlust.

It’s a lot of what I’ve been feeling lately over the course of my winter break at home.

First of all, I know I haven’t been writing on here as often as I once did. We’re working on that for 2019.

But then again, I haven’t traveled anywhere new and exciting to spin a tale about. The goal is to go to a few new places in 2019.

Which brings me to “fernweh.” It sounds silly to say I’m full of wanderlust as if this were some little indie film about a girl trying to “find” herself. The truth is, I’m so incredibly bored of staying in the same place. I feel like I’ve been home for too long!

Lately, I’ve seen a lot of photos on social media with other people traveling over break and other people starting their own semesters abroad. It leads to a small ting of jealousy since it looks like so many people are visiting all these places around the world. It even has me looking back at my own photos from a little over a year ago, and I long for the soft rain Ireland is so well known for. This has led to my strong urge to travel. Anywhere.

The spring semester is starting up next week, so my education is still a priority. That hasn’t stopped me from googling flights late at night and trying to see if I can afford a quick vacation somewhere.

Yes, I’ve taken a few road trips over the course of my winter break. Driving around the tri-state area is cool and all, but I’ve already seen a lot of it. There are so many new places I want to see, a lot of them in the United States.

I say this because my bank account is telling me no international flights for a while. I would need to work for some extra funds if I were to be able to go back to Ireland or further in the near future. So for the time being, I will continue to explore my home country more!

Fernweh. I have realized the meaning of this word perfectly sums up how I’ve been feeling these past few weeks. Looking for somewhere new to go.

Hopefully, I’ll have some exciting plans to share soon, so make sure to stay updated with this blog by following this website along with my social media. Leave any destination suggestions in the comments below, I’m always looking for some helpful tips!
